DHAKA, Feb 2, 2026 (BSS)- BNP Standing Committee Member Begum Selima Rahman today said women love BNP because BNP always believes in the dignity, rights, and empowerment of the women.

She said, "Women constitute half of the population in the country. No country can ever develop by undermining women. In the name of religion, a certain class is trying to diminish the dignity of women, which is extremely alarming."

Selima Rahman made the remarks as the chief guest while addressing a protest rally organized by Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal in front of the party's central office at Nayapaltan in the city.

She said today's programme is not a conventional political protest; it is a social and moral demonstration.

“This protest rally is against the disrespectful remarks and negative attitudes
being expressed towards women “, She added.

Referring to Islam, the BNP leader said, "Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) first established the social status and rights of women. Yet, today, there are attempts to push women back and return society to a dark age."

"Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman integrated women into the mainstream of education, employment, and development. He believed that the mother and the motherland are equally sacred. From that belief, he made women partners in nation-building," she added.

She said during BNP's tenure, rural women got opportunities in education and employment and were able to contribute significantly to the country's economy, adding, "Women are working competently from parliament to administration, education, health, economy, and various professions."

The senior BNP leader said those who are making objectionable remarks about women working outside are forgetting that millions of women in this country are working outside with dignity to support their families and moving society forward.

Selima Rahman said women are not only members of the family; they are assets of this country. Everyone must raise their voice to protect the rights and dignity of women.

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal Central Committee President Afroza Abbas, General Secretary Sultana Ahmed, along with party leaders from central and metropolitan levels were present at the time.
