JASHORE, Feb 2, 2026 (BSS) - In the run-up to the 13th national parliament election, BNP candidate from Jashore-3 (Sadar) constituency Anindya Islam Amit has pledged to establish a 500-bed medical college hospital in Jashore to improve healthcare services for local residents.

In an exclusive interview with BSS here recently, Amit said that although Jashore has a medical college, the absence of a full-fledged medical college hospital has long been felt by the people of the district.

“I want to establish a 500-bed medical college hospital as per desire of the people,” he said adding there is an incomplete coronary care unit (CCU) at Jashore General Hospital, which he plans to complete, if elected.

“I want to give it a complete form to the CCU so that the people of Jashore do not have to run from Dhaka to Khulna due to heart attacks...They should not have to die on the streets due to lack of treatment,” he added.

Amit has been involved in BNP politics for a long time. During difficult time for the party, he remained active in street movements and faced more than 50 cases and serving jail multiple times.

He played a significant role in strengthening the party activities in Khulna and is particularly popular among the youth. He is currently serving as the Khulna Divisional Organizing Secretary of the BNP Central Committee.

He is the son of late Tariqul Islam, who was a member of the BNP’s standing committee, the party’s highest policy-making body and served as a minister during BNP-led governments. Party leaders and activists hold similar expectations for Amit.

Asked about his election promises, Amit said he wants to do politics based on amity, harmony and coexistence. He however, pledged to build a safe city free from terrorism, drugs and juvenile gang violence, alongside improving healthcare facilities in Jashore.

Regarding instructions to party leaders and workers on following the election code of conduct, he said that since candidates are well aware of the Election Commission’s rules, workers and supporters may not be informed again.

“We are making them aware and telling everyone to stay within the rules,” he said, adding that workers are being guided through warnings and counseling as well.

According to him, so far party leaders and workers have been campaigning in compliance with Election Commission rules.

On the July Charter referendum, Amit said BNP has always supported reforms. He noted that in 2023, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman outlined reform proposals through a 31-point agenda. “Therefore, BNP’s position in the upcoming referendum is in favor of ‘yes’,” he said.

Expressing his expectations, he said the people of Bangladesh have long been deprived of voting rights and have been waiting for a fair election for over a decade.

He urged the interim government to ensure a level playing field for all parties so voters can cast their ballots in a festive, fear-free and peaceful environment.

A total of six candidates are contesting in the Jashore-3 constituency in the upcoming Jatiya Sangsad polls slated for February 12.
