DHAKA, Feb 1, 2025 (BSS) - The Election Commission has imposed restrictions on the movement of taxi cabs, pickups, microbuses and trucks from 12:00 midnight on 11 February to 12:00 midnight on 12 February, the day when the 13th national parliamentary election and referendum will be held.
At the same time, a ban has been imposed on the movement of motorcycles from 12:00 midnight on 10 February to midnight on 13 February, a handout said.
The restrictions will be relaxed in the following cases: law enforcement agencies, armed forces, administration and authorized observers; vehicles engaged in emergency services and all types of vehicles carrying medicines, health-medical and similar goods and newspapers; vehicles used for going to the airport for relatives, returning from the airport with passengers or relatives to their own residence or to the residence of relatives (subject to showing a ticket or similar proof) and any vehicle carrying long-distance passengers or for local travel as long-distance passengers; one vehicle for a contesting candidate, one vehicle for the election agent of a contesting candidate (subject to having the appropriate appointment letter and identity card) (small vehicles such as jeeps, cars, microbuses etc.) subject to the approval of the Returning Officer and display of stickers on the vehicle; vehicles and motorcycles used by journalists, observers or for any emergency purposes (subject to the approval of the Election Commission and the Returning Officer); motorcycles for officers and employees engaged in election work or any other person subject to the approval of the Election Commission; considering telecommunication services as an emergency service, BTRC and BTRC-licensed organisations may take necessary effective measures to relax restrictions on vehicles and national highways, ports, important roads, highways and main road connecting roads for entering or leaving the inter-district or metropolitan area or all such roads.
In addition, the concerned District Magistrate and Metropolitan Police Commissioner have been empowered to impose or relax restrictions on vehicles other than the aforementioned vehicles on the occasion of the 13th national election and referendum, as per the specified schedule.
This information was revealed today through a notification, signed by Al-Amin Md. Nurul Islam, Deputy Secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Department.
