CHATTOGRAM, Feb 1, 2026 (BSS) - Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman will address three major public rallies in Chattogram tomorrow as part of his election tour ahead of the 13th national parliamentary elections, party sources said.
Dr Shafiqur Rahman is scheduled to speak in support of the 'Scales' symbol at rallies at 11:00 am in Padua, Lohagara of South Chattogram, at 2:00 pm in Sitakunda of North Chattogram and at 6:30 pm at the Bandar School and College ground in Chattogram city.
Leaders and activists of Jamaat and the Jamaat-led 11-party alliance have expressed strong enthusiasm over the rallies, with extensive preparations, campaigning and organisational activities underway across the city and surrounding districts to ensure large turnouts.
Party leaders said Dr Shafiqur Rahman is expected to outline plans for political reform and present the July Charter and his vision for a new Bangladesh. His speeches will focus on local and national issues, including upgrading Chattogram port to international standards, creating a business-friendly environment and addressing waterlogging in the port city.
Street meetings, processions, miking and leaflet distribution are being carried out to mobilise supporters, while volunteer teams have been formed at ward and police station levels to ensure disciplined and orderly gatherings.
According to Jamaat Assistant Secretary General and Chattogram Division Chief Mohammad Shahjahan, an estimated 15 to 20 lakh people are expected to attend the three rallies combined.
Ahead of the Chattogram programme, Dr Shafiqur Rahman will also attend public meetings of the Jamaat-led 11-party alliance in Maheshkhali and Baharchhara areas of Cox's Bazar.
Law enforcement agencies have taken three-tier security measures to maintain law and order during the rallies.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Aminur Rashid said adequate numbers of uniformed and plainclothes police, along with intelligence personnel, have been deployed to ensure peaceful programmes.
Jamaat Chattogram City Assistant Secretary Mohammad Ullah said all preparations for the city rally at Bandar School and College ground have been completed and leaders and activists of the 11-party alliance will attend the event.
Meanwhile, Chattogram South District Jamaat Ameer Anwarul Alam Chowdhury said the Padua, Lohagara rally is expected to be the largest, where Dr Shafiqur Rahman will also highlight regional issues, including the need to upgrade the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar Highway to six lanes.
