KHULNA, Jan 31, 2026 (BSS) – As Tarique Rahman is scheduled to visit Khulna on Monday (February 2) morning, after more than two decades, widespread enthusiasm was seen among the party leaders and activists.
Party leaders and activists have expressed immense enthusiasm, and extensive preparations are underway for his arrival and the scheduled rally.
During his visit in Khulna, Tarique Rahman will address as the chief guest at an election rally, organised by Khulna city and district units of BNP, at the Prabhati School ground in Khalishpur, The rally will begin at 10:00 in the morning on the aforementioned day, party sources said.
As part of the preparation, the BNP’s City and district units have formed six sub-committees to ensure smooth organisation of the programme. The six sub-committees have been formed to oversee coordination, accommodation, discipline, media management and other organisational matters.
Preparations for the election rally are in full swing, including publicity through loudspeaker announcements.
According to responsible sources of Khulna City BNP, the election rally will be organised jointly by the Khulna city and district BNP units, where Tarique Rahman will deliver a keynote speech as chief guest.
This will mark his first direct political programme on Khulna soil in more than two decades.
Khulna City BNP General Secretary Shafiqul Alam Tuhin said the decision to hold the rally was finalised at an important meeting of senior BNP leaders held on Friday night.
"There is tremendous excitement among BNP leaders and workers in Khulna regarding Tarique Rahman's arrival," Shafiqul Alam said.
The meeting was attended by BNP nominee for Khulna-2 constituency Nazrul Islam Manju, BNP nominee for Khulna-3 Rakibul Islam Bakkul, BNP central information secretary and Khulna-4 candidate Azizul Bari Helal, Khulna-5 candidate Ali Asgar Lobi, along with senior leaders of the metropolitan and district BNP.
Party sources said the goal is to turn the rally into the largest election gathering in the southern region, with participation of a large number of leaders and activists from Khulna city, district and adjacent districts.
A series of preparatory meetings are being held at the party office focusing on ground security, discipline, media management and publicity. Loudspeaker campaigning has already begun across the city and district.
Khulna City BNP President Advocate Shafiqul Alam Mona said Tarique Rahman’s visit to Khulna is not merely an election programme but a moment of renewed courage, confidence and morale for party leaders and activists.
“For leaders and activists who have been engaged in long struggles, this visit will serve as a fresh source of inspiration. Seeing our beloved leader in our own city after 22 years is a matter of emotion, pride and honour,” he said.
He further said Khulna has historically been a stronghold of BNP, and Tarique Rahman’s visit ahead of the election will play a significant role in the party’s political strategy.
The rally will be a milestone in showcasing organisational strength in the southern region and restoring voter confidence.
Meanwhile, concerned sources confirmed that the administration has also taken necessary measures to maintain normal law and order surrounding the rally.
