THAKURGAON, Jan 31, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said he has been involved in politics throughout his life for establishing the people's voting rights.

"In demanding the people's right to vote, I have suffered immense hardship and harassment over the past 15 years. One hundred and seventeen cases were filed against me; I was imprisoned 11 times and spent three and a half years in jail," he said.

"However, the source of peace is that today the common people have regained their right to vote," Fakhrul added.

He made these remarks this afternoon while addressing election meetings in Akcha and Chilarang unions of Thakurgaon Sadar upazila.

The BNP secretary general said this is an opportunity for all to move the country forward by remaining united, irrespective of religion.

Therefore, he called upon the people to exercise their voting rights properly and make the 15-year-long struggle meaningful.

Fakhrul said, "Those who do not believe in our independence cannot be trusted."

"We fought in the Liberation War of 1971. Millions of people sacrificed their lives for this country, and our mothers and sisters lost their honor," he said.

He urged the voters to go to polling center fearlessly and return home after casting their votes. "BNP has always stood by you and will continue to do so in the future," he said.

Leaders and activists of BNP from various levels were present at those events.
