Akhtar confident of victory in Rangpur-4

RANGPUR, Jan 30, 2026 (BSS) - National Citizen Party (NCP) Member Secretary and 11-party alliance candidate from Rangpur-4 (Kaunia-Pirgachha) constituency Akhtar Hossain on Thursday expressed confidence about winning the upcoming Jatiya Sangsad election, citing an overwhelming response from voters.

"We are receiving a massive response from people during our door-to-door campaign. Insha'Allah, the 'Shapla Kali' symbol will secure a decisive victory in Rangpur-4 in the February 12 Jatiya Sangsad election," Akhtar told reporters.

He made the remarks after attending an election meeting in support of the 'Shapla Kali' symbol at Khopati village under Balapara union in Kaunia upazila of Rangpur district.

Akhtar alleged that leaders and activists of his party were facing attacks in different parts of the constituency.

Expressing concern over the prevailing law and order situation, he said questions were being raised about the neutrality of law enforcement agencies. He demanded the immediate arrest of those involved in attacks on NCP supporters as well as Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists in Pirgachha upazila.

Calling for peaceful political practices, Akhtar urged all political actors to uphold the culture of a 'new Bangladesh', saying there was no room for violence and intimidation.

He also stressed that the trend of political violence spreading across the country must be stopped immediately.

Jamaat-e-Islami Kaunia upazila ameer Abdus Salam Sarkar, NCP Rangpur district joint coordinator Abu Reza, Kaunia upazila chief coordinator Saidul Islam and others were present at the meeting.
