DHAKA, Jan 29, 2026 (BSS)- Religious Affairs Adviser Dr AFM Khalid Hossain has said February 12 election would be a milestone in Bangladesh’s history.
The “Yes” vote in the referendum would prevent the return of autocracy by ensuring a balance of power and advancing the country’s democratic development, he said.
Dr Khalid made the remarks as the chief guest at a referendum campaign and a views exchange meeting on voter's motivation held at Dharmarajika Buddhist Monastery in the capital’s Basabo area.
The adviser urged all to build public opinion in favour of the “Yes” vote.
The meeting was jointly organised by the Buddhist Welfare Trust and the Christian Welfare Trust, with Vice Chairman of the Buddhist Welfare Trust Bhavesh Chakma in the chair.
Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Professor Ali Riaz, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser (Consensus) Monir Haider and Religious Affairs Secretary Md Kamal Uddin were present as special guests.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Ali Riaz said voters would receive two ballots on February 12—one white for electing candidates and one pink for setting governance guidelines through the referendum.
He called on citizens to vote “Yes” to build an autocracy-free Bangladesh.
Monir Haider urged voters to support the “Yes” vote to establish a humane, just and disciplined Bangladesh.
Among others, representatives of Buddhist and Christian communities also spoke at the meeting.
