About his promises to the voters, Shamsul Alam Mukta said since 1965, I have seen that no MP or minister did anything significant for the people of Rajshahi metropolis. Although there is peace and education here, there is no employment, he said, adding that unemployment is widespread in this area and even many young people having MA degree are found selling tea or driving auto-rickshaws. No big industry or medical city has been developed here, he said, adding that there is no security for public life, rather extortion has increased.
“My promise is that if I get elected, I will eliminate the unemployment problem of Rajshahi, arrange for proper training for people to go abroad and create employment opportunities for about 5 lakh people, InshaAllah. Through training, the youth will be made self-reliant,” he added.
BSS: What are your instructions to the leaders and activists to follow the electoral code of conduct?
About the electoral code of conduct, Shamsul Alam Mukta said he has given clear instruction regarding the maintaining the electoral code of conduct. “However, I have some observations about the impartiality of the administration. I want the administration to be completely neutral and ensure the safety of the voters. I am following the code of conduct myself and have instructed my leaders and activists to follow it,” he said.
When asked about his position on the referendum on the July Charter, Shamsul Alam Mukta said his position on the referendum on the 'July Charter' is 'Yes'. “I think this referendum is very suitable for Bangladesh and if it is established, no political party will be able to establish single-party supremacy. I will call upon everyone to vote for 'Yes' in the referendum,” he added.
About his expectations for the national elections, the Nagorik Oikya candidate said his expectation is that this election should be as fair and impartial as possible. The law enforcement agencies should truly ensure the safety of voters so that they can vote without being subjected to any intimidation or party aggression, he said, adding that those who threaten voters should be brought to justice. Even if any party creates or will create chaos at the polling centres, the qualifications of that party or candidate should be cancelled or banned if necessary, he added.
