DHAKA, Jan 28, 2026 (BSS)- BNP's election steering committee spokesperson and Chairman Adviser Mahdi Amin today once fugitive fascists launched corruption related propaganda aiming to undermine massive developments of BNP’s tenure, saying now a political party is echoing the same falsehood.
He said, "Top leaders of a certain political party have taken up the responsibility of launching the old, false and deceptive narrative of 'world champion in corruption. As part of a planned conspiracy, they have started this false narrative in the tone of the defeated fascists."
Mahdi Amin made the remarks at a press conference after a meeting of BNP's election steering committee at Gulshan in the city this afternoon.
He said that during the tenure of the BNP government from 2001 to 2006, two members of that specific political party were also in the government.
He referred to the current engagement in such propaganda as 'duplicity', while avoiding the responsibility or credit for the achievements and situation of that time.
Regarding corruption, he further said that when BNP came to power in 2001, the corruption score of the previous government was cleverly shifted to BNP.
Massive development had taken place during the tenure of BNP.
Mahdi Amin claimed that when BNP left power in 2006, that corruption score had been brought to a respectable position.
The spokesperson of BNP's election steering committee said, “While seeking votes, a certain party is misusing religious sentiments, tempting with paradise, making people swear on the Quran Sharif, and even proposing to give money to mobile financial service numbers.”
He added “Therefore, when those who themselves are trying to buy votes with money tell stories of corruption, it questions their so-called integrity.”
He further said that BNP views positively the Election Commission's (EC) recent warning and legal measures regarding the collection of voters' NID (National Identity Card) during election campaigns.
“We commend the Election Commission's timely initiative of issuing this warning. Such steps are extremely important for the security of voters' personal information and for the sake of a transparent election,” he added.
Senior leaders of BNP's election steering committee were present at this meeting in Gulshan, where detailed discussions were held regarding campaign and organizational strategies for the upcoming election.
