Preparations for Feb 12 election stronger than previous polls: Home Adviser

SYLHET, Jan 28, 2026 (BSS) – Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today said preparations for the forthcoming national election scheduled for February 12 are stronger compared to previous elections.

“The stakeholders linked to the election are well prepared,” he said while exchanging views on law and order ahead of the election and referendum at the PTI Auditorium, organized by the Sylhet Divisional Commissioner’s Office.

Speaking about the situation in Sylhet, the adviser expressed satisfaction, saying preparations in the division are better than expected.

Referring to the overall arrangements for the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election, Chowdhury said comprehensive security measures have been taken. 

“Each polling centre will have CCTV coverage and body-worn cameras, while drones will be deployed in different centres,” he added.

To further ensure security, dog squads will remain   standby, he also said.

He said a striking force comprising members of the Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force, along with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), will be deployed. 
Mobile teams will also remain active during the election.

“Our overall preparation is good enough to ensure a peaceful election,” the adviser said.

Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Nasimul Ghani and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam, among others, were present at the meeting.
