DHAKA, Jan 28, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has pledged to integrate Mirpur effectively with Dhaka through improved national transport networks and to transform the area into a safe, livable, and modern urban hub.

"This Mirpur was one of the strongholds of the July Uprising. But sadly, today, it has turned into a place of neglect, encroachment, traffic congestion, waterlogging, crime, and insecurity," he said.

Jamaat Chief made the remarks this morning while meeting with residents of his Mirpur-15 constituency as part of his election campaign ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election.

Accompanied by senior party leaders, including central executive committee member Mobarak Hossain, Dhaka North Nayeb-e-Ameer, Mirpur-15 constituency director Abdur Rahman Musa, and former Islami Chhatra Shibir central president Zahidul Islam, the Jamaat Ameer outlined his vision for the  constituency and Dhaka as a whole.

Dr Rahman emphasized building a safe city where the lives, property, and dignity of citizens are protected, development is ensured for all, and justice prevails. Measures will include controlling commodity prices, alleviating traffic congestion, expanding parks and green spaces, and creating a modern, habitable capital.

Addressing women's safety, he said, "Mothers and sisters do not feel safe in public spaces. We will ensure security from home to schools, workplaces, streets, and public transport, Inshallah."

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman also pledged enhanced street lighting, CCTV at strategic locations, strong community policing, and a zero-tolerance policy against drugs. He promised humane and planned slum redevelopment and affordable housing solutions to tackle Mirpur-Kafrul's housing crisis.

Highlighting public grievances, he said, "Clean drinking water is scarce, streets flood after light rain, drains are blocked, and traffic chaos is a daily problem. With your support, we will restore proper management, organise  bus routes, expand the metro network, and reclaim footpaths from illegal  occupation."

The Jamaat Ameer reaffirmed the party's commitment to youth empowerment  through IT and technical training centers, promoting freelancing and modern technology skills, and providing interest-free loans to small and medium  entrepreneurs.

He called on the people of Mirpur to reject politics of violence, corruption, and vested interests, and to vote for Jamaat-e-Islami to ensure respect, safety, and a prosperous future. "Let us build a safe, humane, and livable  Mirpur and walk together toward a new Bangladesh," the Jamaat Chief said.
