GOPALGANJ, Jan 28, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has affirmed the party's firm commitment to building a violence-free and united Bangladesh for the nation's future generations.
"Everyone in this country is an equal citizen, and all have equal rights," he told a road show in Gopalganj-1 constituency (covering Muksudpur and part of Kashiani) as part of his election campaign ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Polls.
Expressing determination for an egalitarian and peaceful Bangladesh, the Jamaat Ameer said that since August 5, 2024, the party has engaged with people of all faiths and communities, offering assurance and encouragement. Speaking on the upcoming election, he said, "On the 12th, there will be two votes-- one 'Yes' and one 'No'. 'Yes' means freedom, and 'No' means slavery. On the 12th of February, we will firmly cast the first vote in favor of 'Yes'."
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman emphasized, "We do not aim for politics of deception, bank robberies, or plundering the stock market. Our politics is not about owning the country; it is about serving the country."
He further urged the nation to move away from politics marked by blame, flattery, deceit, falsehood, and fascist tendencies. Expressing hope for a new political dawn, he said a fair election on February 12 will lay to rest the politics of past hardships.
During the road show, 'Daripalla' (Scale) symbol was handed over to a candidate. Earlier on Tuesday night, after concluding election campaigns in the southwestern region, the Jamaat Ameer addressed another road show at Muksudpur bus stand on his way back to Dhaka.
Reflecting on past grievances, the Jamaat Chief said, "Whatever happened to us in the past, we have forgiven in the party's name. We have kept our word."
Security measures were heightened around the bus stand area ahead of his arrival, with police, APBN personnel, and plainclothes intelligence officers deployed.
It is worth noting that a total of nine candidates, including BNP Central Committee Assistant Organising Secretary and Selimuzzaman Molla, are contesting in the Gopalganj-1 constituency in the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
