CUMILLA, Jan 27, 2026 (BSS) - National Citizen Party (NCP)’s chief coordinator for southern region and 11-party alliance candidate for Cumilla-4 (Debidwar) constituency Hasnat Abdullah said the politics of vote rigging in Bangladesh came to an end after deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled the country.
He warned that anyone attempting vote rigging or seizing polling stations would face the same fate as Hasina.
Hasnat made these remarks at a courtyard meeting held at the Wahedpur Ghoshai Bari field in Subil Union of Debidwar upazila.
He emphasized that the people themselves must remain conscious and play an active role in protecting their voting rights.
Noting that there are concerns that certain quarters may plan to create disorder around polling stations during the election, he urged the voters to remain alert in this regard.
He added that on election Day, ordinary citizens will be the true guardians of the polling centres, and active presence of the people will ensure a free and fair election.
The NCP leader said those who previously took part in mass movements and remained on the streets would now take responsibility for protecting voting rights.
He also stressed the need for important role of people from all walks of life society, especially women.
Regarding the referendum, Hasnat said a particular group is deliberately spreading misleading propaganda as misinformation is being spread about the “Yes vote” which has no factual base.
Addressing voters, he said that in the upcoming election there will be two decisions on the ballot—one to elect a parliamentary candidate and the other for the referendum. He added that the future state system will depend on the people’s decision.
