JHENAIDAH, Jan 26, 2026 (BSS) - A district-level imam conference was held in the district on Monday to promote awareness about the upcoming referendum and election on responsible participation.
The conference, organized by the district administration, took place at a town park at 10:00am, with around 700 khatibs and imams from six upazilas of the district in attendance.
Deputy Director of the Islamic Foundation Riazul Islam presided over the event, while Deputy Commissioner Md. Abdullah Al Masud attended as the chief guest.
Superintendent of Police Mahfuz Afzal, Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Kamruzzaman, Additional Deputy Commissioner Saifur Rahman, and Additional Deputy Commissioner Subir Kumar Das were present as special guests.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Md. Abdullah Al Masud described the referendum as an important democratic process and emphasized the role of religious leaders in ensuring its fair and peaceful conduct.
He urged khatibs and imams to motivate people to participate actively in the referendum through sermons and religious discussions in mosques.
He expressed hope that religious leaders would help raise public awareness and encourage voter participation.
During the conference, speakers also provided guidelines on building public opinion in favor of a ‘yes’ vote in the referendum and stressed the importance of voter awareness and responsible participation in the national electoral process.
