CUMILLA, Jan 25, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman today said the people of the country want development and security, and the BNP will ensure both if voted to power.

"People want to live a better life. They want proper healthcare for their families, quality education for their children, and a comfortable and secure living environment," he said.

He added that people also expect to conduct business and trade without harassment and to have the opportunity to work according to their qualifications. "Along with personal security, these are the main expectations of the people today," he said.

Tarique Rahman made the remarks while addressing an election rally as the chief guest at Chauddagram High School ground in Cumilla on Sunday evening.

He said BNP has formulated various plans with the aim of addressing these needs. "We want to implement these plans, and for that, your important responsibility is to make the 'sheaf of paddy' victorious in the February 12 election," he said.

"If the people vote for the 'sheaf of paddy,' BNP will be able to implement the plans we have unveiled," he added.

The BNP chairman also said that if voted to power, the party plans to introduce family cards for mothers. Under this initiative, families will receive monthly assistance from the government.

"We never said that everything needed would be provided every month. We said some assistance would be given every month so that families can benefit. We want to implement this programme," he explained.

The public rally was chaired by Chauddagram Upazila BNP President and Cumilla-11 (Chauddagram) constituency candidate Kamrul Huda.

After nearly two decades, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman visited Cumilla. In February 2005, he attended the Union BNP representatives' conference at Cumilla Stadium.
