DHAKA, Jan 24, 2026 (BSS) - National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam today said voters have become more aware and no longer believe political promises that lack practical feasibility and accountability.
"Some political parties are offering misleading assurances without any realistic plan for implementation. Those who are competing against us are giving various false promises. In reality, they have no clear roadmap to deliver on them," he told journalists while campaigning in the Shahjadpur area of the capital this morning.
Nahid, also Dhaka-11 constituency candidate, said people are increasingly skeptical of such claims because they have heard similar promises in the past that were never fulfilled. "Voters now ask how a pledge can actually be implemented. A promise alone is not enough," he said.
Referring to the upcoming election and the simultaneous referendum, Nahid described the vote as a historic opportunity to change the country's course. He expressed concern that an atmosphere of fear is being created in several areas, including his own constituency, to discourage free voting.
Nahid also alleged repeated violations of the electoral code of conduct, saying that posters are being hung on electric wires and lawful campaign activities, including banners, are being obstructed or torn down.
He reiterated that the 10-party alliance has taken a firm stance in favour of 'Yes', while accusing some parties and individuals of promoting 'No' to maintain extortion-driven, violent, and authoritarian system of the past. "We do not seek power for its own sake; we aim to take responsibility through reforms," he said.
Nahid urged supporters to remain active on the streets and at polling centres on February 12 to ensure that voters' rights are fully protected. He called on the youth to play a frontline role on election day to ensure that the people's verdict is reflected fairly and impartially.
He also asked voters of Bhatara, Rampura and the entire Dhaka-11 constituency to support the 10-party alliance's symbol 'Shapla Koli' (water lily bud) mark as a vote for justice, reform, and fairness.
Nahid said if they elected to parliament, the alliance would implement reforms and address long-standing local problems. During the day, he carried out campaign activities in Bhatara Thana, Banshtola and Subastu Market areas and participated in several courtyard meetings with local residents.
