THAKURGAON, Jan 23, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Secretary General and Thakurgaon-1 constituency candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir formally started his election campaign on Friday afternoon with a road meeting and public outreach event at Sholthari Bazar in Debipur union, the constituency’s southernmost area.

Addressing a large gathering of supporters, Mirza Fakhrul said, “My childhood, adolescence, and youth were with you, and today I am older among you. Yet, when I come to you, I feel renewed strength and the determination to continue serving you for many more days.”

He highlighted past initiatives under BNP leadership, mentioning, “Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia have done a lot for the people of this country. In this area, we ensured irrigation facilities through the Barendra Deep Tube Well Project.”

Targeting political opponents, he remarked that Jamaat has never been in power and, therefore, does not know how to serve the people. He promised that if BNP is voted to power, “Mothers and sisters will be provided with family cards, and farmers will receive agricultural cards to ensure a higher standard of living. BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has made a clear commitment in this regard.”

Mirza Fakhrul emphasized that BNP is the only party capable of ensuring public security.

“BNP is a party of harmony, a party of peaceful coexistence,” he said, urging citizens to unite under the party’s banner to keep the wheels of the economy moving amid concerns over commodity prices and overall development.

The meeting was chaired by Salahuddin, president of Ward No. 2 of Debipur Union, and attended by BNP leaders at the district, upazila, and union levels.
