23,567 to cast vote through postal ballots 1st time in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Jan 23, 2026 (BSS) - Thanks to the advancement of technology and 
interim government, 23,567 voters will vote for the first time through 
'postal ballot' in the referendum and the 13th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Elections 
in six constituencies of Rangpur district. 
 
These voters registered online include expatriate Bangladeshi citizens, 
government and private officials and employees working in the country and 
abroad, and voters in prisons. 
 
The district election office officials told BSS that 23,567 voters residing 
in the country and abroad have completed their registration through the 
'Postal Vote BD' app within the registration period till January 5. 
 
The process of sending ballot papers to registered voters by post has already 
begun. 
 
According to the constituency-wise registration information, 3,257 voters 
have registered to vote by postal ballot in Rangpur-1 (Gangachara and Wards 1 
to 9 of Rangpur City) constituency. 
 
The total number of voters in this constituency is 3,75,227. Six candidates 
are contesting in Rangpur-1 constituency. 
 
Among them, BNP's Mukarram Hossain Sujan (Sheaf of Paddy), Jatiya Party's 
Barrister Manjum Ali (Plow), Jamaat-e-Islami's Raihan Siraji (the Scales), 
Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal-Marxist Ahsanul Arefin (Scissors), Islami 
Andolan's ATM Golam Mostafa (Hand-fan) and Islamic Front Bangladesh's Md. 
Anas (Chair). 
 
The total number of voters in Rangpur-2 (Badarganj and Taraganj) constituency 
is 380,921. Of them, 3,116 voters have registered to vote in postal ballots. 
 
The five candidates contesting in this constituency are Jamaat-e-Islami's ATM 
Azharul Islam (Scale), Jatiya Party's Anisul Islam Mandal (Plough), BNP's 
Mohammad Ali Sarkar (Sheaf of Paddy), Islami Andolan's Ashraf Ali (Hand-fan) 
and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD's Azizur Rahman (Star). 
 
In Rangpur-3 (Sadar and Wards 10 to 33 of Rangpur City), the highest numbers 
of 5,230 voters have registered to vote in postal ballots. The total number 
of voters in this constituency is 508,224. Eight candidates are contesting in 
this constituency. 

They are BNP's Md Shamsuzzaman Samu (Sheaf of Paddy), Jatiya Party's GM 
Quader (Plow), Islami Andolan's Amiruzzaman Piyal (Hand-fan), Jamaat-e-
Islami's Mahbubur Rahman Belal (The Scales), Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal-
BSD's Abdul Quddus (Ladder), third-gender independent candidate Anwara Islam 
Rani (Deer), Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal-Marxist's Anwara Hossain Bablu 
(Scissors) and independent candidate Rita Rahman (Sunflower). 
 
The total number of voters in Rangpur-4 (Pirgachha and Kawnia) constituency 
is 509,906. Of them, 4,643 voters have registered themselves in the postal 
ballot. Eight candidates are contesting from this constituency. 

They are BNP's Emdadul Haque Bhorsa (Sheaf of Paddy), Jatiya Party's Abu 
Naser Shah Md Mahbubar Rahman (Plough), NCP's Akhtar Hossain (Shapla koli), 
Islami Andolan's Zahid Hossain (Hand -fan), Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis's Abu 
Sahma (Rickshaw), Bangladesh Congress's Ujjwal Chandra Roy (Dub), Bangladesh 
Samajtantrik Dal-Marxist's Pragati Barman Toma (Scissors) and independent 
candidate Shah Alam Basar (Deer). 
 
A total of 4,445 voters have completed their registration to vote in the 
postal ballot in Rangpur-5 (Mithapukur) constituency where the total number 
of voters here is 4,69,189. 
 
The 10 candidates in this constituency are Jamaat-e-Islami's Golam Rabbani 
(The Scales), Jatiya Party's SM Fakhr Uz Zaman (Plow), BNP's Golam Rabbani 
(Sheaf of Paddy), Islami Andolan's Golzar Hossain (Hand-fan), Nagorik Oikya's 
Mofakhkharul Islam Nabab (Kettle), Communist Party of Bangladesh-CPB's Abu 
Helal (Kasthe), Amar Bangladesh Party's Abdul Bashet (Eagle), Bangladesh 
Samajtantrik Dal's (Marxist) Babul Akhter (Scissors) and Bangladesh 
Congress's Mahbubur Rahman (Dub). 
 
Two thousand 876 voters have completed their registration to vote in the 
postal ballot in Rangpur-6 (Pirganj) constituency where the total number of 
voters here is 3,55,735. Eight candidates are contesting in this 
constituency. 

They are BNP's Saiful Islam (Sheaf of Paddy), Jatiya Party's Nur Alam Mia 
(Plow), Jamaat-e-Islami's Nurul Amin (The Scales), Amar Bangladesh-AB Party's 
Sadequl Islam (Eagle), Islami Andolon's Sultan Mahmud (Hand-fan), independent 
candidate Abu Zafar Md. Zahid (Horse), independent candidate Khandaker 
Shahidul Islam (Football) and independent candidate Takia Jahan Chowdhury 
(Sunflower). 
 
Rangpur Regional Election Officer Md Delwar Hossain said that after receiving 
the ballot paper, registered voters will vote for their preferred candidate 
and return the postal ballot to the office of the returning officer through 
the nearest post office. 
 
Rangpur Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan told 
BSS that currently the total number of voters in all six constituencies of 
Rangpur district is 25,99,202. 
 
"Among the voters, 13,60,333 female, 12,92,838 male and 31 transgender 
voters. Voting will be held in a festive atmosphere on February 12 at 4,988 
booths in a total of 873 polling centers in six constituencies of the 
district," he added.
