RMP issues public notice ahead of JS election and referendum

RAJSHAHI, Jan 23, 2026 (BSS) - Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) has issued a public notice to mark the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election and referendum scheduled to be held February 12, 2026.

The RMP has taken special measures to maintain normal law and order in its area in connection with the election and referendum.

In accordance with an order issued through a memorandum from the Political Wing–4 of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the RMP authorities have issued the public notice.

Signed by RMP Commissioner Dr Zillur Rahman, the notice stated that the carrying and display of firearms by licensed firearm holders will be prohibited within the RMP area from January 31 to February 15.

During this period, all licensed holders have been instructed to deposit their suspended or licensed firearms and ammunition by January 31, 2026 at the nearest police station to their permanent or current address, or with a licensed dealer.

In this regard, the license holders have to deposit the firearms and ammunition either personally or through an authorized representative.

However, this restriction will not apply to members of all law enforcement agencies involved in maintaining law and order.

In addition, security guards assigned to various governments, semi-government, and private offices, financial institutions, and other important installations will also be exempt from this restriction.
Separate instructions have been mentioned for politically important persons and candidates for the post of Member of Parliament.

According to the Firearms License and Retainer Appointment Policy, 2025, this directive prohibiting the display of firearms will not apply to duly nominated and accepted parliamentary candidates who have legally submitted their nomination papers to the Election Commission, nor to their armed retainers.
