Election campaign kicks off in festive atmosphere in Barishal

BARISHAL, Jan 22, 2026 (BSS) – Barishal is buzzing with election campaigns as candidates have officially started their campaigns for the 13th National Parliament election across the six parliamentary constituencies of the district.

In Barisal Sadar 5 constituency, BNP-nominated candidate Advocate Mujibur Rahman Sarwar launched his campaign at 2:00 pm on Thursday with a prayer in front of the BNP party office on Sadar Road. After the prayer, Sarwar began canvassing for votes under the party’s symbol Sheaf of Paddy. 

He called on residents to cast their votes for the development of Barishal and held mass rallies in various parts of the city.

Earlier, Mufti Syed Muhammad Faizul Karim, nominated by the Islami Andolam,   and campaigning under the Hat Pankha symbol, started his official campaign with a prayer at the Agurpur Road area of Nahri Sadar Road. 

He later campaigned in multiple areas, distributing leaflets and urging people to vote for a corruption-free Bangladesh.

Dr. Manisha Chakraborty, the Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) candidate campaigning under the Ladder symbol, began her campaign by paying homage to the Central Shaheed Minar in Barishal. 

She subsequently distributed leaflets in Sadar Road and surrounding areas, appealing to voters to support the creation of a new Bangladesh.

A total of 36 candidates are contesting the six parliamentary constituencies in Barishal, with six candidates vying for seats in the five constituencies of Barishal Sadar. 

The total number of registered voters in the area is 513,003, including 250,617 female voters and 250,677 male voters.
