GAZIPUR, Jan 21, 2026 (BSS) - Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on Posts, Telecommunications and ICT, today urged people to cast "Yes" vote in the upcoming referendum to help build a new Bangladesh.

He made the call while addressing an awareness meeting on Referendum 2026 as the chief guest at the Gazipur District Administration Auditorium.

Calling the referendum a vital democratic process, he said ensuring a free, fair and participatory exercise requires coordinated efforts from all levels of the administration.

He underscored the need for adequate preparation and transparency in this regard.

Referring to the forthcoming election, he said it would be the country's best election due to extensive use of technology.

CCTV cameras would be installed at all polling centres while police personnel would have body-worn cameras, he said, adding that video imaging would be used to ensure accountability and prevent irregularities.

Speaking on urban development, he said building a modern Gazipur city is a shared responsibility and requires a comprehensive master plan, including provisions for workers' housing and transportation.

The Special Assistant to CA said repeated constitutional amendments in the past concentrated excessive power in a single individual, underscoring the need for a constitutional framework that ensures balance of power and decentralisation.

He said the existing constitutional structure is no longer sufficient to effectively run the state, making reforms inevitable.

Accordingly, reform initiatives are focusing on balance of power, decentralisation of authority and strengthening institutional capacity, he added.

Taiyeb said the interim government was formed to carry out reforms, ensure justice and hold elections.

He noted that public engagement is essential to make reforms sustainable.

Expressing optimism, he said the accumulated problems of the past 54 years would be addressed to build a better Bangladesh for future generations, and urged citizens to ensure a "Yes" vote in the referendum.

Gazipur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alam Hossain presided over the meeting.

Additional Police Commissioner Taherul Haque, Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Sohel Hasan, and representatives of religious institutions, educational institutions and local organisations were present.

Later, Taiyeb exchanged views with election-related officials of Gazipur district at the Bhawal Conference Room of the Gazipur District Administration.
