MANIKGANJ, Jan 19, 2026 (BSS) - Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan today said anyone obstructing election-related activities would be brought under the law.

"The election scheduled for this year is completely different from previous ones. Normally, the next election was supposed to be held in 2029. We must understand why it is being held in 2026," the adviser said, adding that the election is taking place at the cost of thousands of lives and numerous injuries.

"We must ensure a level playing field for all," he said.

The adviser made the remarks while addressing a discussion organised by the Manikganj district administration in the evening, where he attended as the chief guest.

He stressed the need to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply at all polling centres, as CCTV cameras would be installed at every centre to ensure transparency.

Urging all concerned to work sincerely, the adviser said collective efforts are essential to make the upcoming national election successful.

Referring to past elections, he said voting often took place at night, and despite claims that people were the owners of the country, power was effectively controlled by fascist forces. "The people of the country no longer want the rule of one man or one party," he added.

"We have no party or candidate of our own. Our role is to establish the people's right to vote," the adviser said.

He also noted that efforts had been made to raise public awareness about the importance of the 'Yes Vote', not in favour of any individual, but to ensure justice for the July martyrs, hold a fair election and carry out necessary reforms.

The meeting was chaired by Manikganj Deputy Commissioner Nazmun Ara Sultana. Superintendent of Police Muhammad Sarwar Alam, among others, also spoke on the occasion.
