RANGPUR, Jan 17, 2026 (BSS) - Sushashoner Janno Nagorik (SUJAN) Secretary Badiul Alam Majumder has said that the present interim government can campaign for a 'Yes' vote in the upcoming referendum for reforms.

The present government is not a caretaker government. It is a government of mass uprising. There was a law, a legal framework for the caretaker government.

The caretaker government could not have taken any decision on policy issues after elections. But the current interim government has come to prioritize the reform activities related to elections, reforms and justice.

“To carry out these reforms, the current interim government has formed 11 reform commissions. Therefore, the government is committed to making these reforms and therefore they can campaign for a 'Yes' vote in favour of these reforms,” he said.

Badiul Alam Majumder said this at a divisional dialogue titled 'Post-Uprising Aspirations, Reforms and Election Manifesto' at the Begum Rokeya Auditorium of RDRS Bangladesh in Rangpur city on Saturday afternoon.

District SUJAN President Principal Khandaker Fakhrul Anam Benju chaired the dialogue moderated by Metropolitan President Advocate Jobaidul Islam Bullet.

Speakers at the dialogue included Jamaat-e-Islami nominated candidate for Rangpur-3 constituency Mahbubar Rahman Belal, Khelafat Majlish candidate Touhidur Rahman Mondal, BASOD candidate Anwar Hossain Bablu and lawyer Mahe Alam, District SUJAN General Secretary Nasima Amin, Metropolitan General Secretary Sajjad Haider Swadhin, women organizer Manjushree Saha, journalist Farhaduzzaman Faruk .

The parliamentary candidates from eight districts of Rangpur division, civil society representatives, SUJON organizers and media workers who participated in the dialogue presented various recommendations on reforms.

Badiul said, "Even if the answer is 'Yes' in the referendum and these are included in the constitution, it does not mean that we will be completely free from the authoritarian system.

He said, "Sheikh Hasina did not abrogate the constitution, although she has radically changed and rewritten the constitution through the 15th Amendment. But she has turned into a monster by using that authoritarian structure.

If this authoritarian structure continues, then the possibility of those who come to power later becoming dictators cannot be ruled out.

“I hope that the 13th national parliament elections will be held on February 12, there is no alternative to this. In order to hold a fair and impartial election, our political parties and their candidates will behave well,” he said.

Badiul Alam said the goal for which the brave freedom fighters liberated the country and the July fighters gave their lives should not fail. Everyone has a responsibility to implement this.

He said, although the country became independent in 1971, its benefits were not obtained, democracy was not established, secularism was not established, and socialism was not achieved.

The outline of the three alliances in 1990 was not implemented. There is also a fear that the aspirations of the July Uprising will be defeated.

He said, “The reforms are needed. Law reforms, cleaning the election arena, making the political arena free from corruption, stopping money games, citizens and the media must play their watchdog role.”
