DHAKA, Aug 17, 2026 (BSS) – A court here today convicted one Md Sanaullah and sentenced him to death in a case filed over the killing of his wife by pouring hot water on her over a dowry dispute in Kamrangirchar area in 2006.

Judge Munshi Md Moshiar Rahman pronounced the judgment this noon, also fining the convict Taka one lakh.

According to the case documents, on May 5, 2006, Sanaullah started beating his wife, Rubina Akter Pinki, over dowry. At one stage, he poured boiling water on her, leaving her severely burned. Hearing her cries for help, neighbours rushed her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Rubina’s mother, Rabia Akter, filed a case against 10 people, including Sanaullah, with Kamrangirchar Police Station. Police filed a charge sheet against Sanaullah on November 20, 2006.

The court delivered the judgment today after examining a total of nine witnesses.
