DHAKA, Aug 06, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today placed former joint secretary Syed Jaglul Pasha on a seven-day remand in a case over allegedly obstructing former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia from joining a political rally by placing sand-laden trucks in front of her Gulshan residence and spraying pepper spray.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Didarul Alam passed the order after police produced Pasha before the court and sought a 10-day remand for interrogation.

Syed Jaglul Pasha was arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police from his residence in the capital's Bashundhara area at around 1:30 am on Tuesday. The court sent him to jail on August 5.

According to the prosecution, the accused allegedly placed sand-laden trucks around the former prime minister's Gulshan residence on December 29, 2013, as part of a premeditated plan to prevent her from joining the party rally.

When Begum Khaleda Zia allegedly attempted to leave her residence, they used force and sprayed pepper spray on her, the prosecution said.

A former leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Shariful Islam Shaon, filed the case with Gulshan Police Station on October 4, 2024.
