Another remanded in case over assaulting DMCH ENT Chief

DHAKA, Aug 25, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today placed one Jibon alias Adil on a five-day remand in a case lodged over the alleged assault on Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Department Chief Professor Dr Asadur Rahman.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasan Shahadat passed the order as police produced Jibon before the court and pleaded to place him on a 10-day remand in the case.

According to the case documents, Prof Dr Asadur Rahman came under attack at around 11:30 pm on August 17 while getting into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw after seeing patients at Popular Diagnostic Centre in the city's Shantinagar area.

Five to six accused, led by accused Jibon, stopped his auto-rickshaw and dragged him down from the vehicle. They assaulted Asadur indiscriminately, injuring his head, eye and nose. 

The victim filed the case with Paltan Model Police Station the following day.

Earlier on August 22, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Manjurul Islam placed another accused Farhan Shahriar Evan on a five-day remand in the case.
