Husband sentenced to life-term jail for Killing wife in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, July 21, 2026 (BSS)- A court here today sentenced Md. Nezam 
Uddin, 29, to life imprisonment for murdering his wife, Shahnaz Begum, 22. 

He lured her to a residential hotel in the Bahaddarhat area of Chandgaon 
Police Station under the pretense of seeking medical treatment. 

The verdict was delivered by the Fifth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge 
Md. Tajul Islam convicting Md. Nezam Uddin, son of the late Kabir Ahmed, from 
East Jiri area of Patiya upazila of the district.
 
According to court assistant SM Kawsar Sagar, the court established Nezam 
Uddin's guilt under Section 302 of the Penal Code, as the evidence presented 
by nine witnesses substantiated the charges beyond reasonable doubt. 

As part of the judgement, he received a life sentence and was fined Taka 
50,000, in default, to suffer six-month more in jail.
 
The accused was present in court when the verdict was pronounced.
 
Case records indicated that Md. Nezam Uddin married Shahnaz Begum on June 12, 
2011. Her husband brought Shahnaz to Chattogram city from Patiya after she 
fell ill in September 2012, assuring her for better medical care.

However, instead of taking her to a hospital, they checked into room 319 of 
Hotel Al-Reza, located near Swajan Supermarket in Bahaddarhat. 

Later, Shahnaz Begum's body was recovered from the room. 

Following the incident, her brother Md. Azgar Ali lodged a murder complaint 
with Chandgaon Police Station. 

After conducting an investigation, the police submitted a charge-sheet 
against Md. Nezam Uddin, and on March 18, 2014, the court formally charged 
him, initiating the trial process. 

After an extensive judicial procedure, the court delivered its verdict on 
Tuesday afternoon examining nine witnesses out of 20.
