MUNSHIGANJ, Aug 12, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a man to life
imprisonment for killing a man in Sreenagar upazila of the district in 2021.
The court also fined convict Suman Hossain alias Suman Sheikh, 35, son of Ali
Hossain of Hasargaon village in Sreenagar upazila, Taka 20,000, in default,
to suffer one year more in jail.
District and Sessions Judge Shariful Alam Bhuiyan pronounced the verdict in
presence of the convict. Suman Hossain was later sent to jail.
According to prosecution, Suman had taken money from Kulsum Begum's family
after promising to send her son abroad. A dispute developed between Suman and
Kulsum after he failed to arrange the promised overseas employment.
Kulsum went missing on January 17, 2021. Nineteen days later, on February 5,
her body was recovered from a vacant plot in Hasargaon area, where it had
been concealed under grass.
Following the recovery, Kulsum's son Kamrul Hasan Ayon filed a murder case
with Sreenagar Police Station. Police subsequently arrested Suman Sheikh.
The court reached its verdict after considering Suman's confessional
statement and the testimony and evidence presented by 19 witnesses.
Public Prosecutor Advocate Mustafizur Rahman said the court found Suman
guilty of murdering Kulsum and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
