Eight get life terms in Khulna double murder case

KHULNA, July 15, 2026 (BSS) – A court in Khulna today sentenced eight people to life imprisonment in a double murder case filed with Sonadanga Police Station.

Judge Nusrat Jabin of the Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge First Court delivered the verdict. The court also fined each convict Tk 50,000, with an additional one-year rigorous imprisonment in default of payment. 

The Judge also acquitted nine charge sheeted accused as the allegation against them were not proved.

The convicts are Faruk Sheikh alias Gari Faruk, Nuruddin Md. Raju alias Indian Raju, Jahangir Hossain, Sohel Sikder, Kalu Sheikh alias Rajib, Siddiq, Wasim alias Dada Wasim and Jabbar.

According to the prosecution, Md. Haidar alias Kana Haidar, son of Sheikh Mohiuddin of Khan Mohammadpur in Rupsha upazila, had married Marzina Khatun, daughter of Faruk of Banargati Matiapul area under Sonadanga Police Station, and had been living there after the marriage.

On February 28, 2010, at around 3pm, the accused allegedly entered Haidar's house armed with machetes, knives and other sharp weapons and attacked him, inflicting multiple injuries.

Hearing his cries for help, his brother-in-law Tarikul Islam Piku rushed to the scene but was also hacked by the assailants.
Haidar's wife Marzina Khatun was injured while trying to stop the attackers, who fled the scene afterward.

Haidar died on the way to the hospital, while Tarikul succumbed to his injuries shortly afterwards.

Following the incident, Haidar's brother, Tayab Ali, filed a murder case with Sonadanga Police Station. 

After investigation, police submitted a charge sheet against 17 accused on August 13, 2010. Charges were framed by the court on January 27, 2011.
