DHAKA, July 13, 2026 (BSS) – A court here today placed two former employees of NJ Diamonds on a five-day remand each in a case filed over the alleged theft of diamond and gold jewellery by replacing the original ornaments with cheap replicas at the jewellery shop.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sefatullah passed the order as police produced Munmun Acharya and Rifa Tamanna before the court and pleaded to place them on a 10-day remand each in the case lodged over the ingenious crimes.
According to the case statement, Munmun Acharya and Rifa Tamanna allegedly conspired with several unidentified accomplices to steal and misappropriate diamond jewellery while working at the establishment between April 27, 2024, and July 8, 2026.
The complaint alleges that, following a premeditated plan, they systematically replaced genuine diamond ornaments with replica and misappropriated the original jewellery. The case also accuses them of directly stealing several genuine diamond ornaments.
Among the items allegedly stolen through the substitution scheme were four diamond-and-gold necklaces weighing 26.11 grams, 50.41 grams, 19.84 grams and 31.43 grams, respectively.
