JAMALPUR, July 9, 2026 (BSS )- A court here convicted a man for killing his wife in 2012 and sentenced him to  death penalty today. 

The court also fined him  Tk  five lakh.

The convicted person was identified as Md Anowar Hossain,28, son of Idris Ali  of  village Sanandabari in Dewanganj Upazila of the district.

According to the prosecution of the case in short is that Anowar Hossain married Ismatara Khatun daughter of Abdul Rahim,  a resident of  Madarer Char Master Para of the same Upazila.

During marriage Anowar took ornaments and valuables from Ismatara’s family.  After the marriage Anowar used to torture her for a dowry of  Tk one lakh.  

On December 11, 2012 Anowar strangulated to death her who already became a mother of a daughter of four years. He left the body at the home yard of his neighbor Hurmuj Ali with whom he had previous enmity.

The Following day brother of the victim, Md  Majnu Miah filed a murder case against him with Dewanganj Police station.

Judge,  Woman and Child repression prevention tribunal -1, Muhammad Abdur Rahim after examining 6 prosecution witnesses , medical reports and other relevant documents found Anowar guilty and sentenced him to death in his absentia .

Public Prosecutor Advocate Md Fazlul Haque confirmed the verdict.
