CHATTOGRAM, June 29, 2026 (BSS)- A court in Chattogram has sentenced two
individuals to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of Palash,
which occurred approximately 17 years ago in the DC Road area under Baklia
Police Station in the city.
The verdict was delivered by Chattogram's Fifth Additional Metropolitan
Sessions Judge Md. Tajul Islam on Monday [June 29].
The convicted individuals are Mahmudul Hasan Prakash Sohel and Ayub Ali
Prakash Babul.
According to Court Bench Assistant SM Kawsar Sagar, testimony from 14 out of
16 witnesses was recorded during the proceedings.
The court established the guilt of the two accused based on the evidence
presented, resulting in their life sentences, a fine of Taka 50,000, and an
additional six months of imprisonment if the fine is not paid.
At the time of the verdict, the accused were absconding, prompting the
issuance of an arrest warrant against them following the original sentence.
Case records indicate that the accused, motivated by prior enmity,
intentionally lured Md. Palash to the fourth floor of the Jamal Building in
the DC Road area on August 27, 2009, where they murdered him.
On August 28, 2009, victim's brother, Md. Samrat, filed a case with the
Baklia Police Station.
Following the investigation, a charge-sheet was submitted to the court, and
the charge-sheet was formalized on November 12, 2012, leading to the
initiation of the trial.
Initially, the case was pending in the Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal
before being transferred to the Fifth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Court
of Chattogram.
