PK Haldar’s associate Abhijeet gets 7-year jail in graft case

DHAKA, June 22, 2026 (BSS) – A court here today convicted and sentenced Abhijeet Adhikari Tirtho, an associate of former managing director of NRB Global Bank and Reliance Finance Limited, Prashanta Kumar Haldar alias PK Haldar, to seven-years jail in a graft case.

Judge Mohammad Hasanuzzaman of Dhaka Special Judge Court-1 pronounced the judgment this noon, and ordered the confiscation of his assets, deemed to be beyond known sources of income, in favour of the state.

The court sentenced Abhijeet under two separate sections of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act. He was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment under Section 26(2) of the ACC Act for concealing asset information, and five years’ imprisonment under Section 27(1) for acquiring assets beyond known sources of income. 

The judgment stated that the sentences under the two sections will run concurrently.

Abhijeet Adhikari Tirtho, the former managing director of Sukhada Properties Limited, was also fined Taka 1.35 crore, or to suffer an additional 30 days of imprisonment, in default.

The case was filed on March 6, 2023, by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Assistant Director Mansi Biswas for acquiring assets worth Taka 1.22 crore inconsistent with his known sources of income. He was also accused of failing to submit his wealth statement within the stipulated time.

Following the investigation, ACC Deputy Director Nazmul Hossain submitted the charge sheet against him on May 5, 2024, bringing allegations of illegal wealth accumulation amounting to Taka 1.35 crore.

On March 13, 2025, the court framed charges against the accused. During the trial, five witnesses testified in the case.
