Seminar held on criminal sentencing framework

DHAKA, June 21, 2026 (BSS) - A seminar on examining the feasibility of enacting a law for determining the quantum of punishment in criminal offences was held in the capital today.

Organised by the Law Commission of Bangladesh, the seminar was held at the commission's auditorium.

The seminar was presided over by Law Commission Chairman Justice Zinat Ara while Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman attended it as the chief guest.

Conducted by Law Commission Research Officer Md Asif Iqbal, officials from the concerned division, ministry and commission, including Law and Justice Division Secretary Liaquet Ali Molla, participated in an open discussion on the proposed law in this regard.

Law Commission Member Justice Shamim Hasnain and Professor Dr Naima Haque attended the seminar as discussants. The keynote paper was presented by Law Commission Research Officer Mosammat Monira Sultana while the welcome speech was delivered by Law Commission Secretary (District and Sessions Judge) Syed Azad Subhani.
