DHAKA, Sept 01, 2026 (BSS) – A court here will hear on September 14 whether to take cognizance of a charge-sheet filed against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 32 others in a case over the death of mason Babul Mridha during the July 2024 Mass Uprising.
Confirming the matter to BSS, sub-inspector Mohiuddin Chowdhury of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court’s general registration wing said investigation officer and Jatrabari Police Station sub-inspector Mahmudul Hasan Irfan filed the charge-sheet on August 13.
The other prominent accused in the case are- Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Anisul Huq, Hasan Mahmud, Mohammad Ali Arafat, Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Sadik Abdullah, Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun and Habibur Rahman.
According to the case documents, mason Babul Mridha went out of his house in Jatrabari on July 19, 2024, in search of his son Abu Taleb. When he reached in front of Lucky Community Centre, Babul sustained a gunshot wound to his back. He was rushed to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries 52 days later on September 9.
Babul Mridha’s widow Sima Begum filed the case on November 19, 2024.
