DHAKA, Aug 31, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today placed three people on five-day remand each in a case filed over the killing of teacher Ranjina Pervin Ruli, 55, during a mugging in front of Jatiya Sangsad (JS) on August 29.
The three accused are Md Poni alias Pera Poni, Cedrik Julian and Rakib Hossain.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Siddique Azad passed the order as police produced the trio before the court and pleaded to place them on a 10-day remand each in the case.
The accused were arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on late August 29.
Ranjina Pervin Ruli, head teacher of Baghbari Government Girls Primary School in Gabtoli upazila of Bogura, arrived in the capital early on August 29 with her husband Abdul Matin.
They were heading to Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital in Farmgate by rickshaw at dawn. When the rickshaw reached in front of the south plaza of Jatiya Sangsad, muggers riding a speeding motorcycle snatched her bag, causing Ruli to fall onto the street.
Ranjina Pervin Ruli sustained serious injuries in the incident and was later declared dead at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital.
