DHAKA, June 9, 2026 (BSS) – Attorney General Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal today said that the state side will not seek any adjournment during the hearing of the death reference in the Ramisa rape and murder case that could delay the proceedings.
“There is a public expectation that the verdict should be implemented as quickly as possible. From our side, it is clear that we will not cause any delay in the hearing of this case. We will not seek adjournment of the hearing even for a single day,” he said while addressing a press briefing at his office this afternoon.
The attorney general said his office has appointed lawyers for the hearing of this case, adding, “We expect that the appeal will be disposed of as soon as possible, so that the process of executing the verdict can move forward.”
Kazal further said that he expects the preparation of the paper book in the case at the High Court will be completed within the next two working days.
“Once the paper book is ready, steps will be taken to place the Ramisa case for hearing before the special bench which the Chief Justice has said will start functioning from Sunday. Efforts will be made to list the case for hearing before that bench,” he added.
The death reference and judgment of the relevant tribunal in the case filed over the rape and murder of second-grade student Ramisa Akter reached the High Court earlier in the day.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Children’s Violence Suppression Tribunal, which pronounced the verdict in the case on June 7, sent the three-page death reference along with the 69-page judgment to the High Court this afternoon, office assistant Shahidul Islam carried the documents, bench official Pankaj Peter Gomez told BSS.

It also fined Sohel Rana Taka five lakh and Swapna Akter Taka two lakh.
Ramisa, a class-II student of Popular Model High School, was raped and beheaded by her neighbour, Sohel Rana, at his flat in the Millat Camp area of Pallabi on May 19. Her father filed the case the following day.
