DHAKA, Oct 30, 2025 (BSS) - The government through National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO) from 2009 to September, 2025, has provided legal aid to 1, 32,417 inmates.
"All these inmates were given free legal aid through the legal aid offices in the 64 districts," a NLASO monthly release said.
NLASO, a statutory organization of the government under the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, said a total of 13, 03, 643 have received its services so far.
"A total of 1, 91,493 people received legal advices by calling on the national toll free helpline number 16430, while 26,479 people got the service from Supreme Court Legal Aid Office," it added.
Apart from these, 21,844 people received free legal advices from two labour law aid cells in Dhaka and Chattogram.
The NLASO also realized Taka 293, 19, 69,581 as compensation for insolvent justice seekers during the time. Of the total amount, Taka 286, 43, 80,550 was realized through 64 district legal aid offices, while Taka 6, 75, 89,031 was realized through two labour law aid cells in Dhaka and Chattogram.
Legal aid was also given in 4, 43,798 cases, of which 4,35,961 cases received legal aid from district legal aid offices of the NLASO, 4,525 cases from two labour law aid cells in Dhaka and Chattogram and 3,312 cases from Supreme Court Legal Aid Office.
A total of 2, 25,591 cases were disposed of by providing legal aid. Of the cases, 2, 22,496 received legal aid from district legal aid offices and 2,277 cases were disposed through the legal aid provided by the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office.
Apart from these, initiatives have been taken for alternative dispute resolution (ADR) in 1, 87,986 cases, of which 1, 84,682 initiatives were taken from the 64 district legal aid offices.
