SANGSAD BHABAN, April 09, 2026 (BSS)- Treasury bench members in the parliament today said the July mass uprising was a result of BNP’s struggle for 17 years.
The achievement of July movement is not the success of a particular political party but it was a victory of all as BNP consistently engaged in struggle for 17 years, they said.
The parliament members were taking part in the discussion on the Thanks Giving Motion on the President’s speech in the parliament.
Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal was in the chair.
“Although the July uprising was a movement by the students and the people and we have prepared its ground for the last seventeen years”, said ruling party lawmaker Mahbubur Rahman (Mymensingh-7).
The fascist government tried to establish autocracy and resorted to repression on the BNP leaders and activists.
BNP due to ceaseless struggle we could siege the victory in 2024’s July movement under the leadership of BNP chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, he said. The lawmaker paid tribute to the martyrs who had sacrificed their lives during the July movement.
During the discussion, the ruling party lawmakers praised the speech of the President who has recognized Begum Khaleda Zia as the founder of parliamentary democracy.
The first session of the 13th parliament began on 12 March 12 with President Mohammed Shahabuddin delivering his address.
The Business Advisory Committee later fixed 50 hours for discussion on President’s speech. Chief Whip Md Nurul Islam moved the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address, which was seconded by Whip Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu.
Praising the role of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the Rahman said the Prime Minister is moving ahead to bring a revolutionary change in the health, education, sports and manpower sectors.
The PM is trying to introduce public private partnership in health sector and bring quality education in the sector and the initiative will bring a revolutionary change in the sector, he said.
Calling the government to give attention to long neglected Shariatpur Sadar area, another treasury bench lawmaker Said Ahmed of Shariatpur-1 said the fascist government did not pay attention to the development of his constituency.
The lawmakers also paid rich tribute to BNP founder former President Ziaur Rahman, three times Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia and also to the martyrs who had sacrificed their lives during the War of Independence in 1971 and the July uprising in 2024.
