DHAKA, Mar 26, 2026 (BSS) - Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury said that upholding the true history and empowering the people will form the foundation for building a prosperous Bangladesh.

He made this statement as the chief guest at a discussion and cultural program organized by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on the occasion of the Independence and National Day.

He emphasized the presentation of the true history of the Great Independence to the new generation, saying, "A nation gains the strength to move forward only by upholding the true history."

At the event held at the National Theatre Hall of the Academy here, the minister paid deep tribute to all the martyrs who sacrificed their lives-from the Language Movement of 1952 to the 1971 Liberation War.

He said, "In 1971, when the country was at a critical juncture and without leadership, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman declared independence from Kalurghat Radio Station, which initiated the people's war."

He further said that the true history must be protected from distortion and that everyone's contribution should be accurately presented.

Referring to the current economic and administrative situation of the country, the minister said, "We are weaving new dreams from a devastated condition. The government is determined to overcome the challenges faced in the economy and in the banking and insurance sectors."

He emphasized that the true sovereignty of the state lies in the hands of the people, who exercise it through their voting rights.

"We did not come to power to fail; rather, we want to transform the country completely by taking on all current challenges," he added.

Regarding future plans, the minister said that their goal is to present Bangladesh's potential to the world with pride.

Along with the maximum utilization of natural resources, it is essential to develop skilled human resources. Only then can Bangladesh stand tall on the global stage as a prosperous and self-reliant nation, he said.

Expressing strong commitment to cultural heritage, Nitai Roy Chowdhury said culture is the soul of a nation. He pledged to revive the country's cultural identity-from rural folk traditions to contemporary artistic practices.

He expressed the desire to create a cultural renaissance that will introduce Bangladesh proudly to the world.

After his speech, the minister enjoyed the cultural performances organized by the Academy.

Among those present at the event were Cultural Affairs Secretary Md. Mofidur Rahman, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Director General Sheikh Rezauddin Ahmed, government officials, and distinguished artists.
