DHAKA, Mar 26, 2026 (BSS)- State Minister for Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin today urged all to work together to build a safe, inclusive and child-friendly Bangladesh ensuring protection for women and children.

She made the call while addressing as the chief guest a discussion, prize-giving ceremony and cultural programme held at the Bangladesh Shishu Academy auditorium in the capital marking Independence and National Day 2026.

Describing March 26 as a glorious day in the nation’s history, she said Bangladesh achieved independence 55 years ago through the sacrifices of 30 lakh martyrs and the immense sufferings of countless people.

Paying tribute to the martyrs, she said their contributions would remain an enduring source of inspiration for the nation.

The state minister stressed the need to ensure a safe environment for children, particularly by raising awareness about personal safety issues, including “good touch” and “bad touch”.

She also called for raising collective voices on violence against women and other injustice.

The programme was chaired by Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and Officer-in-Charge of Bangladesh Shishu Academy Mosammat Arju Ara Begum, while Additional Secretary (Children and Coordination) Shabnam Mostari spoke as special guest.

Later, the state minister distributed prizes among winners of a children’s art competition and enjoyed cultural performances presented by the young artists.
