JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY (Savar), March 26, 2026 (BSS) - Jahangirnagar University (JU) today observed the 56th Independence and National Day.
In the morning, JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan placed a wreath at the National Memorial in Savar, paying homage to the martyrs of the Liberation War.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor said, “Independence Day is a symbol of our national identity and democratic aspirations. Bangladesh was born from the spirit of the Liberation War, and we must move forward upholding that spirit. Past movements and struggles remind us that people seek peaceful democratic progress, not conflict.”
“Through collective efforts of both the government and opposition, avoiding corruption and ensuring governance based on merit and morality, it is possible to build a developed and democratic Bangladesh,” he added.
Later, the Teachers’ Association, Ladies’ Club, Journalists’ association, JUCSU, Officers’ Association, Employees’ Association and Union, along with various halls and departments, placed wreaths at the memorial.
Pro-VC (Academic) Prof Dr Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman, Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Dr Sohel Ahmed, Treasurer Prof Dr M AbdurRab, deans of different faculties, acting registrar, hall provosts, proctor, teachers, officers and employees were present among others.
Earlier at dawn, the national flag was hoisted at the administrative building. Pro-VC (Academic) Prof Dr Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman hoisted the national flag while Treasurer Prof Dr M AbdurRab hoisted the university flag. Acting Registrar A B M Azizur Rahman and other officials were also present.
