DHAKA, April 24, 2026 (BSS) – FactWatch has identified attempts to create confusion and spread rumours by circulating AI-generated images.

According to FactWatch, the claim of a fire at the residence of Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus is baseless and supported by fabricated visuals.

Its investigation found that the circulated images are not related to any real incident but were created using artificial intelligence. No reports of such a fire incident have been found in any mainstream media outlets, it added.

Fact-checking organisations said the spread of misinformation related to Bangladesh has increased across local and international media, social media accounts, and some Facebook pages since the mass uprising of 2024.

Such disinformation campaigns have particularly targeted the interim government, parties involved in the 2024 movement, and the BNP following the formation of the government.

FactWatch has been working to curb the spread of rumours and misinformation in the country. The organisation is an independent fact-checking entity approved by the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh and operated by the Center for Critical and Qualitative Studies (CQS).

Recently, incidents of spreading fake videos, misleading information, and rumours on social media have increased. FactWatch has been regularly verifying such content, presenting accurate information, and working to prevent the spread of misinformation.
