DHAKA, May 15, 2026 (BSS) – The fact-checking and media research wing of the Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB), ‘Banglafact’, has debunked as false a statement on border killings that was wrongly attributed to BNP Senior Joint Secretary General and Political Adviser to the Prime Minister Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and widely circulated on social media.

According to Banglafact, a photocard featuring Rizvi’s image falsely claimed that smuggling and illegal border crossings were not major concerns, asserting instead that India’s use of gunfire along the border was the only issue.

The fact-checking investigation found that Rizvi never made such remarks.

The fabricated statement was traced to a Facebook page titled “Bengali Steam”, which identifies itself as a satire and parody platform. 

Banglafact noted that misinformation campaigns have increased since the 2024 mass uprising, with rumors and manipulated content frequently targeting the interim government, the BNP and other groups associated with the movement.

Banglafact further said it remains committed to identifying and debunking false and misleading information to help ensure public access to verified facts and curb the spread of rumors.
