DHAKA, Sept 22, 2025 (BSS) – Fact-checking platform BanglaFact, operated by the Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB), has identified a false video claiming that China sent warship in response to a recent joint military exercise between the United States (US) and Bangladesh, which is actually false and old video on a different incident.
The BanglaFact investigation team mentioned that the false claims surfaced following the conclusion of "Operation Pacific Angel 25-3," a joint practice drill involving the Bangladesh Air Force and the US Pacific Air Forces.
This exercise started on September 14 and concluded on September 18 in Chattogram.
In the wake of this joint drill, the team observed that a video was recently circulated on social media, particularly Facebook, asserting that Chinese warships were advancing toward Bangladesh.
The misinformation escalated the claims further, suggesting that war between India, China, and America could begin at any moment, the team added.
BanglaFact verified that the viral claim is incorrect and that the video has no connection to the "Operation Pacific Angel 25-3" joint exercise. Furthermore, the video is not recent.
The investigation revealed that the footage is actually a scene from an incident that occurred in December 2023. The video shows two Chinese Coast Guard ships using water cannons against a Philippine vessel in a disputed area of the South China Sea.
BanglaFact confirmed that the incident took place near the disputed ‘Scarborough Shoal’ in December 2023, where two Chinese Coast Guard ships fired water cannons at a vessel belonging to the Philippine Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).
