RAJSHAHI, June 23, 2021 (BSS) – Rajshahi metropolis has been brought under another weeklong complete lockdown for the third consecutive time due to non-declining of the Covid-19 cases despite the last two week long lockdowns.

The lockdown in the city scheduled to end tomorrow (Thursday) midnight has been extended for another week until June 30 suspending all connectivity to the city from different upazilas and nearby districts.

The district administration pronounced the fresh lockdown at a press conference held at its office conference hall this afternoon saying the virus has spread to different areas of the city.

Abdul Jalil, Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Magistrate told the journalists that the rate of infection was getting higher every day as the Delta variant, also known as the Indian variant, of the coronavirus has affected the city badly.

He gave an illustration of the afresh lockdown stating that all types of business and vehicular movement will be closed during the lockdown and all connectivity from different upazilas to the city will be closed.

Earlier on June 11, the administration for the first time had imposed the lockdown to limit the Covid-19 cases.

“We are adamant to enforce the lockdown strictly to protect the public lives from the virus infection,” said Abdul Jalil.

However, the restriction on plying of vehicles carrying patients and other emergency goods will not be applicable, he added.
