CHATTOGRAM, July 18, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 11 people died of coronavirus and 945 more have tested positive in last 24-hour till this morning in the district.

The number of corona cases in the district is on the rise and new record in infection is being reported every day.

The latest infection rate is 31.72 percent.

Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases speedily raised to 70,902 as 945 more persons were reported Covid-19 positive after testing 2862 samples on Saturday in the district.

“The infection rate is showing a quick enhancing trend again and recovery rate is also gradually reducing,” focal person of COVID-19 and civil surgeon of Chattogram Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi told BSS today.

The health experts of Chattogram urged the city dwellers again and again to strictly follow health rules and use masks.

Among the newly detected patients, 639 are from Chattogram city and 306 from different upazilas of the district, hospital sources said.

With the 11 deaths on Saturday, the number of coronavirus (COVID-19) fatalities reached 835, Dr Rabbi said.

Among the reported fatalities, 520 were the residents of the port city and the rest 315 were from different upazilas of the district.

The civil surgeon said among the total infected persons, 53,322 are the residents of the port city and the rest 16,941 are of different upazilas of the district.   

“The number of cured patients from the lethal virus has reached 52,549 in the district with the recovery of 255 more patients on Saturday,” Dr Rabbi said, adding that the percentage of recovery rate stands at 73.95.

A total of 7125 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at designated hospitals here, the health official mentioned.
