Four traders fined, jailed for illegal fertilizer stockpiling in Natore

NATORE, Sept 9, 2026 (BSS) - A mobile court in Singra upazila of the district 
has fined and jailed four fertilizer traders for illegally stockpiling 
fertilizer and selling it at higher prices.

During the drive, the authorities seized 261 sacks of fertilizer from the 
traders and collected a total of Taka 80,000 in fines.

The mobile court conducted the drive from 9 pm to midnight on Tuesday at 
Baragram Bazar in Dahia Union of Singra upazila.

Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate of Singra Upazila 
Nishat Anjum conducted the mobile court under the Fertilizer Management Act 
and the Consumer Rights Protection Act and handed down the sentences.

During the drive, eight sacks of fertilizer were seized from trader Sohel 
Hossain, who was fined Taka 10,000.

Fifty-three sacks were seized from trader Abdus Salam, who was fined Taka 
20,000.

Another 53 sacks were seized from trader Abul Hashem, who was fined Taka 
20,000 and sentenced to seven days of simple imprisonment.

The authorities also seized 147 sacks of fertilizer from trader Mobarak, who 
was fined Taka 30,000 and sentenced to seven days of simple imprisonment.

Singra Upazila Agriculture Officer Khandakar Farid Hasan was present during 
the drive.

Speaking to BSS, AC (land) Nishat Anjum said strict legal action would be 
taken against anyone who illegally stockpiles fertilizer to create an 
artificial shortage or sells it at inflated prices, causing harassment to 
farmers.

She said such drives would continue in the interest of farmers in the area.
