BGB arrests drug peddler with 150,000 yaba tablets in Cox's Bazar

COX'S BAZAR, Sept 8, 2026 (BSS) - The paramilitary force Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) last night arrested a suspected drug peddler with 150,000 yaba tablets during a drive at the Teknaf border here.

A patrol team of Ukhiya Battalion (64 BGB), acting on intelligence information, conducted the operation at a place known as Jasim's Gher under Unchiprang Border Outpost around 7:30pm, said a BGB press release this noon.

The patrol team spotted two suspected persons entering Bangladesh from Myanmar and challenged them.

Sensing the presence of BGB personnel, the suspects tried to flee. The patrol team chased them and arrested Helal Mia, 25, while the other suspect managed to escape, the release said.

Subsequently, the team searched the area and recovered 150,000 yaba tablets packed in two bundles.

Helal, son of Soleman of Kanjarpara village in Teknaf, admitted during preliminary interrogation that he had brought the yaba tablets from the Myanmar border to sell them at a higher price.
Ukhiya Battalion Commander Lt Col Md Zahirul Islam said intelligence surveillance has been intensified to identify and bring drug suppliers and smugglers to justice.

He said the BGB would continue such anti-narcotics drives along the border.
